Ouse Navigation

Nuffield Hospital, Cambridge 2015
In 2015 a journey was made travelling from the source of the river Cam, to where the Cam meets the Ouse and ultimately to where the Ouse meets the North Sea. A series of drawings of the Cam and the Ouse made on this journey were then sandblasted into the york paving stones which now form a path through the grounds of the Nuffield hospital in Cambridge

Travelling by by bicycle, approximately forty drawings were made whilst traveling downstream. The sketches chart the changing landscape of the 80 miles of this journey from the countryside, to the town of Cambridge and on to the coast.

These drawings were sandblasted into traditional paving-stones and laid through the garden to form a twisting pathway that mimics the course of the two rivers’ journey to the North Sea.
