The ‘Cross Channel’ drawings were made during a week’s residency onboard a cross-channel ferry plying its way between France and England. During these days, every hour and a half another boat load of passengers embarked and then disembarked – the only people remaining being the crew and the artist. Six days spent in the international waters between Dover and Calais – constantly crossing and re-crossing the English Channel or ‘La Manche’. The drawings record the small details of travellers caught in kind of small limbo – neither ‘here’ nor ‘there’ – but somewhere in between.
