SeaLevel-detail

A ‘meta’ artwork that used paintings from the maritime collection of the Musee des Beaux Art as a kind of material. ‘Sea Level’ was an expansive 15m installation within which paintings were hung so that their frames touch, and their heights carefully adjusted. The result was a single horizon-line at sea that runs through all of these 14 paintings. This single line is painted in many different styles and was seen on widely different days and times, but the installation presents this line as a universal constant irrespective of time or place. A line that will always find its level.
